platform for Rehearsal of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games
Beijing Municipal government has recently successfully utilized 3D Digital Beijing, developed on Skyline 3D GIS platform, for the 4-day Championships “Good Luck Beijing” sports event, which is seen as a rehearsal for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. 3D Digital Beijing was the sole system to responsible for the emergency management and sports routine visualization during the four-day event. During the grand opening ceremony of the event, many of the government officials have visited the system and praised highly the stability of the software operation, realistic and high details city imagery, and easy-to-use interface. The officials have first hand experience and operation of the system themselves and tried out the sports routine, monitor the traffic and many other functions.
3D Digital Beijing system is one of most renowned e-government applications of Skyline Software in China market. With the support of Skyline Software and strong technical knowledge and development capability of Terra-IT, we have overcome many technical challenges, including merging of data sets, management of model data, access to WFS and WMS, metadata middleware, web balancing, and grid computing etc. The system has successfully realizes the release and share of massive information and data sources, including Beijing urban imagery, Geo-code, political layer, law enforcement information and so on.
Since the successful launch of 3D Digital Beijing in early 2007, the system has played a big role in promoting the sharing of information and resources between government agencies. To date, about 29 government departments and bureaus and more than 20,000 civil servants are using the system in their daily work. The government officials have indicated that the 3D Digital Beijing system can be possibly used for a much wider range of e-government applications in the future.
With the aim of Creating Digital World, Terra-IT has invested huge amount of resources in educating the customers on the significance of 3D visualization world and promoting Skyline products in China.
