Building, Streaming, and Viewing the "Digital Earth"
|
TerraSuite is composed of three main product suites:
TerraBuilder fuses large volumes of imagery, elevation and vector data, to create a terrain database with an accurate 3D model of a landscape.
TerraExplorer is a desktop application that allows users to view and analyze the spatial data, and edit it, adding 2D and 3D information, routes, locations and GIS files. TerraExplorer connects to the terrain database generated by TerraBuilder, and accesses GIS layers directly over a network.
TerraGate is a server that allows users to access the terrain database over the Internet. TerraGate streams spatial data in real-time, as the user flies over the landscape.

Work Flow:
Working in a local environment
Using TerraBuilder you first create a terrain database (MPT file) from orthorectified aerial and/or satellite images and terrain elevation data. You then load the terrain database file in one of the TerraExplorer Desktop applications and use the editing tools to add 2D and 3D information, predefined routes and locations as well as GIS files (in the GIS edition), either from local databases or from external GIS databases via the network. You can then save the project file (FLY file) or export it to create a TerraExplorer basic kit that can be distributed on CD/DVD ROM or via a web page. The basic kit includes all the resources that were used in the projects so that it is independent of the source data.

Working in a Network environment
Using the TerraGate server, any TerraExplorer client can access terrain database files (MPT files) from across a network. It is possible to configure TerraGate to limit access based on user name/password on several levels. TerraGate can also connect to the TerraBuilder DirectConnect to read source imagery and terrain data in their native format, foregoing the need to preprocess the data. Using the DirectConnect option, all that is needed is to load in the imagery and terrain data to TerraBuilder and save the project without creating an MPT file. TerraGate can then connect directly to that project file and stream the data across the network to a TerraExplorer.
