About Working with Layers

SkylineGlobe Server publishes geospatial layers of a wide range of data types including terrain, map, feature, 3D mesh, and point cloud. The source files for these layers can be stored in various data stores, including file systems and servers. Data sources are defined to connect to these data stores, query them, and publish selected geospatial layers while controlling their view and edit permissions. See "About Working with Data Sources" in the "Working with Data Sources" chapter for more information.

Geospatial layers that are stored in existing data stores on the server can be published by scanning their data stores and publishing selected layers. Alternatively, layers and projects can also be easily uploaded and published directly from TerraExplorer or another Skyline client application to a repository folder defined by the special SG Upload data source. SkylineGlobe Server stores the uploaded data and serves it in response to client requests.

Layer management is performed primarily from the SkylineGlobe Server Manager’s Layers page. Management activities include:

§  Searching for Layers

§  Publishing New and Updated Layers from a Server-Side Data Source

§  Editing Layer Properties

§  Adding and Editing a Layer’s Alias

§  Deleting Layers from SkylineGlobe Server

§  Managing Deleted Layers (Permanently Deleting or Restoring)
